One of the great things about working in a coffee shop beyond the previously mentioned learning how to make drinks with an espresso machine is getting to experiment with drinks I already know I like.
Yesterday, I was asked to make a Cup of Lovin’. Basically, it’s a latte with a shot of syrup and anything else I want to throw at it. I will also note that for a while I thought Coworker was saying “Cup Eleven”, not Cup of Lovin’. I spent all last week trying to figure out how a “Cup Eleven” translated to a hand drawn heart on the side of the cup.
Well, feeling particularly creative, I decided to make this Cup of Lovin’ with chocolate AND raspberry syrup. Sounds delicious, right? Apparently it was. The customer (who is one of our regulars and comes in twice a day) was quite pleased.
Not being much of a coffee drinker myself (and trying to avoid caffeine addiction as best I can), I decided to try this same combination myself: in a steamer. Suffice it to say, it was quite good. The problem was, it wasn’t as strong as I wanted it to be. Which I of course promptly told Coworker.
Coworker asked why I didn’t just use chocolate milk to make the steamer and add a full shot of raspberry.
Oh.
If that wasn’t an impressive start to my day, the rest wasn’t far behind.
I have no idea how to make a Con Panna. Especially when the customer asks for a 12 ounce. A Con Panna (if I’m correct) is not a 12 ounce drink! My confusion ended up making a short of foam latte. Oops. Also, this happened while Coworker was on lunch break and Owner was out talking to a customer, so I really didn’t have anyone to ask.
Then, the exciting part of my day. Hestia came by. My first friend to visit me at work! She got her cup of tea on me and then stuck around for a while informing me of her narrow escape from x-raying some poor birds foot. (We later found out said foot had to be amputated.)
I later mentioned this to Regular who had (as predicted) come back at the end of the day for yet another Cup of Lovin’ – made by Coworker this time.
“But we’re all your friends, too!” he complained while his daughter asked Coworker for a smoothie.
“Yes you are,” I replied (in all my infinite wisdom). “But she is the first friend from before I came here to visit me here.” I am quite proud of my recovery on that one.
