You ever see someone post one of those random “10 Things” lists on Facebook and think, “Wow, that would make a good blog post?”

Well that’s pretty much this post right here.

The post goes thusly:

Rules: In your status line, list 10 books that have stayed with you in some way. Don’t take more than a few minutes and don’t think too hard – they don’t have to be the “right” or “great” works. Just the ones that have touched you. Tag 10 friends, including me, so I’ll see your list.

I’m not tagging people – I always feel like that’s annoying. But read to your heart’s content.

  1. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J. K. Rowlingdownload (1)
This book hooked me right away, but it will be the thunderstorm we could see from the airplane that will make the first reading of this particularly memorable.
  2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J. K. Rowling
For bringing me back to the Harry Potter series, and for tying everything together so well that I was picking out connections between all seven books for days/months/years afterwords.
  3. Squire by Tamora Pierce
I love almost everything by Tamora Pierce, but Squire continues to stick with me. I’m rather fond of Kel to begin with, but I think the fact that Raoul knows she’ll make a good commander helps a bit. Also, I’m totally in love with Dom. So this book absolutely wins.
  4. The Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E. L. Konigsburg
This book made staying overnight in a museum (even if you were sneaking to do so) sound awesome. Easily one of my favorite books by E. L. Konigsburg.
  5. The Skies of Pern by Anne McCaffrey
By far my favorite book from the world of Pern, Tai and F’lessan are easily my favorite characters. Science minded astrology nuts, working at amateur archaeology, in a time when dragonriders are becoming obsolete. This is yet another story of find one’s way in an ever changing world.
  6. Dragonsinger by Anne McCaffrey
This was my introduction to the world of Pern… Well, I suppose Dragonsong was my introduction, but I really liked the way Dragonsinger finally brought Menolly to a place where she was accepted and she could use her talents as a musician.
  7. Spindle’s End by Robin McKinley
“The Sleeping Beauty” has always been one of my favorite fairy tales. Robin McKinley’s spin on it is perhaps one of the best retellings I know of, and the main character is also one of the most self-sufficient versions of Aurora that I’ve ever seen.
  8. Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine
This is one of my favorite retellings of Cinderella, ever. Again, a creative, self-sufficient version of Ella here.
  9. Waifs and Strays by Charles de Lint
This did not specify that they had to be novels. Waifs and Strays is a collection of really awesome short stories – the best of which is easily “Merlin Dreams in the Mondream Wood”.
  10. And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
This was the book that made me realize I really did like Agatha Christie. This is followed closely by The ABC Murders, as that one still gives me nightmares.
