I decided to blog about this for multiple reasons. The first reason is this. It’s a brilliant idea.

100 Happy Days is an online photo blogging challenge in which you have to take a picture of something that made you happy each day for 100 consecutive days. The website and more information can be found here: http://100happydays.com/

The second reason is this: I tend to not instantly think to take pictures when something makes me spontaneously happy in the middle of the day. I did start noticing within a day or so of looking into said challenge that I had been able to count something happy that happened each day (sometimes multiple times a day) for the next week. Today has barely started, and I’ve already had three. So here goes:

Robin’s Version of 100 Happy Days, Part 1.

Day 1)
12 January
Had an awesome time at a friend’s birthday outing. Best friend and her boyfriend walked back to the car with me, which was awesomely nice of them.

Day 2)
13 January
Aunt posted “Halfway Down” in response to the Facebook poetry challenge. Easily one of my favorite A. A. Milne poems.

Day 3)
14 January
Took far too much pleasure in regaling people with my exciting visit to the doctor’s office in which I almost passed out. Yeah, the time itself wasn’t so much fun. But the adventure of it kind of was.

Day 4)
15 January
Babysitting one awesome kid with his awesome play-doh hat. Heard David Tennant in the other room, and as a result discovered the children’s TV show, Tree Fu Tom.

Day 5)
16 January
Playing in the snow with said kid! Snow forts with Thomas and Troublesome Truck – and we didn’t lose any pieces. Then re-enacted the opening sequence of Monty Python’s Meaning of Life with stacks of tights boxes – completely by accident. Found it highly amusing.

Day 6)
17 January
Staff meeting with gag gifts! All of them were fun – but my boss got me a “travel size” tea cup with an emergency tea bag (complete with red cross) that said “Keep Calm and Drink Tea”. My boss totally gets me.

Day 7)
18 January
Awesome ballet class in the morning. Ballroom dance in the evening. Was able to do four out of five of the International Standard dances – using International Standard technique! Haven’t done that in years!

Day 8)
19 January
Made pants for “convicts” in Les Mis and… Learned how to use a serger!!! So awesomely epic. I now want one. Had an awesome time with friends later that night watching the beginning of series 3 Sherlock! We’ve decided this needs to repeat itself.

Day 9)
20 January
It’s SNOWING! Police officer stopped a jeep that wanted to pull out and leave the scene of an accident from nearly hitting me, and I was very grateful. Was shoveling a small bit of our parking lot when I realized it looked a bit like an American flag. I cleared out the rest of the “stars” and then took a picture. (And that was all before 10:45 this morning.)

Day 10)
21 January
First day of class! Knocked over a trash can, which immediately ended up amusing me rather than embarrassing me. I think I’ve learned to be able to make fun of myself in good humor… At least with something like that. Also, my Alice in Wonderland mug and hot cocoa packets along with Downton Abbey managed to entertain my time between classes today given that I had no where to go except to stay in the graduate student lounge.

Day 11)
22 January
Had a morning in. Then, despite the cold, went and had a wonderful time sewing MORE pants! They’re getting really easy. The stars were magnificent when I got home.

Day 12)
23 January
Walked in the door at work and it was determined by the kid I babysit for that I really ought to be the one to drive him home in “my” car. (He meant his Dad’s car. There was a whole argument about who owned Dad’s car.) It was sweet, even if babysitting was not on my agenda for today. Had fun in my morning class, during which I tripped over the trash can again. I think this may become a habit – like Tonk’s and that troll’s foot umbrella holder.

Day 13)
24 January
Girls were more well-behaved than normal. Their spring recital piece is coming together. These girls, while sometimes make me want to pull my hair out, are really sweet and silly. Even when frustrating they can bring a smile to my face.

Day 14)
25 January
I had a good class with my Intermediate Ballet girls. I let them have modern music for their grand allegro, and I discovered that my favorite combination works really well with Avril Lavigne’s new song, “Let Me Go”.

Day 15)
26 January
Spent a lot of time talking to Mum while I was home. Made plans to go skiing next weekend with my Dad. And then, of course, Sherlock at my friend’s house. Met new people. Decided we’re hosting Sherlock next weekend – Super Bowl or no. We’re big enough nerds that Sherlock will win over the Super Bowl EVERY time.

Day 16)
27 January
Boss made me walk outside to say hi to the kid. Biggest grin on a face I have ever seen when I knocked on his window and waved.

Day 17)
28 January
Another day at school. One of my graduate classmates hung out with me in the graduate study hall today. Spent some time working on homework drawing personal ecologies. Bit weird, but I got tired of writing and started drawing representations of some of my ecology instead. Got economics homework done.

Day 18)
29 January
Feeling sick, but got the rest of Downton Abbey before it aired. Still haven’t watched it though. Really just wanted to sit and read all day – did for all but 3 hours. Had a quick chat with my sister at 4 in the morning in which we discussed being sick and when I was available to chat. She told me to go back to bed. Got A’s on my economics quizzes.

Day 19)
30 January
Still feeling sick, but managed to have fun anyway. My other graduate classmate invited the other two of us over to her house for future Tuesdays. Definitely something to think over. She said she has dogs! Date tonight. If that goes poorly, I’ll take this bit off later. If not, well, it’ll stay. The kid saw me coming in to work and started running around in circles he was so excited to see me. It makes me feel like the cool aunt – and I’m just the babysitter.

Day 20)
31 January
Friday! Found it amusing when one of my students asked me, “What games do you have on your phone?” My answer was, “I don’t have any games on my phone.” And she said, “But what games do you want on your phone?” She didn’t seem to understand the idea that I didn’t want games on my phone. But it was cute none the less.

Day 21)
1 February
Spent the day relaxing at my parents. Played piano. (I’m learning “Arwen’s Vigil” as composed by The Piano Guys.) Had blueberry pie.

Day 22)
2 February
Went skiing! (Okay, ski-blading if you want to technical.) For all that about half the mountain’s trails were closed, we still had a blast! Then Sherlock. (Saw some of the Superbowl. Enjoyed the commercials.)

Day 23)
3 February
Something happened good… Hang on… I let this go for a couple days too long.

Day 24)
4 February
Awesome day hanging out on campus. Found a fellow dancer at a local coffee shop near campus. Shared hot chocolate with another grad student, and our professors commiserated with us being on campus all day.

Day 25)
5 February
SNOW DAY! I can never not be happy when there is snow falling out of the sky. Brought my boss a cookie. I like seeing other people smile.
